Apparently, in Russian-language interviews, this Armenian author says her town of Maran is inspired by Macondo. There’s not much magic realism, but there are interesting characters trying to survive in an out-of-the way villlage that time is passing by. The way the main character thinks, though, she’d probably feel fairly at home in the world of One Hundred Years of Solitude. A delightful story. I’ll read more from Abgaryan.
