Granulating Gouache

The permanent (hansa) yellow and burnt umber didn’t granulate much. The ultramarine and iris (has dioxazine purple and fluorescents but also ultramarine) did the best. The pure red (naphthol), opera (fluorescent pink), and magenta were middling. For these ones, it seemed to be a balance of getting enough but not too much pigment in a lot of water. The gold seems to have granulated a bit too – I guess that’s the mica. This is in a royal talens sketchbook.
